Leaving home for two weeks to visit Australia and New Zealand. Did not seem real. Would I really be gone from home that long? Having not been away from home for more than a week at a time. The flight to LA was relatively painless. I worked on the way and listened to some music. No problem. The LA flight was delayed about an hour. As a result, we did not have a layover and basically went straight onto another flight to Sydney aka the long stretch. I slept some. But ended up watching movies and listening to music....

Cruise to the Edge 2017 Day One

Day One I awoke early and got a workout in at the hotel. Working out helps with my energy level and I figured I would need the energy today. After checking out of the hotel, I shared an uber with a friend I had met at a prior MorseFest along with his roommate. Once to the terminal, things initially moved quickly. We checked our bags at the drop off point and then followed the rest of the herd through the various checkpoints. Once in the terminal, there was a bit of a wait for those of us that were...

Cruise to the Edge 2017 Overview

In 2015, the idea of a music cruise appeared on my radar. Mike Portnoy orchestrated the Prog Nation at Sea cruise that featured many of my favorite bands such as Transatlantic, Anathema, Pain of Salvation, King’s X and others. However, due to financial and time concerns, I ended up skipping. A decision I have regretted since. The Cruise to the Edge music cruises featuring Yes and other progressive artists have also sailed for the past few years. ¬†While I have liked many of artists on board, I tend to prefer the heavier prog bands as opposed to the more...

Big Wreck Grace Street

Big Wreck has a new album coming out on February 2, 2017. I have been following this group since I saw them open for Dream Theater on their Falling into Infinity tour. Ian Thornley, vocalist / guitarist / primary songwriter, is one of the most talented musicians I have heard. Their new album is called Grace Street. From what I have heard to date, it sounds like a great follow up to the somber Ghosts (2014). The first single, One Good Piece of Me, has the classic Big Wreck sound. One thing I love about Big Wreck is their ability to wear their influences proudly. I can hear nods to The Police in this track. Others are reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and even Fleetwood Mac. If you have the opportunity to check them out on tour, do...

The Headphone Review

Ever since I was a young boy, I dreamed of going wireless.. Well, not really. But, it sure is nice to not have wires that get twisted up and in your way. A couple years ago, I started using the wireless LG headsets with my iPhone. The LG’s are not truly wireless. They hang around your neck and via a retractable wire, you insert into your ears. I started tracking the Earin wireless earphones when they were announced on Kickstarter. They were pretty expensive and when they finally started shipping, the reviews were disappointing. I then switched my focus...
